Multimedia design: a creative and varied career

Irene 1

Since 1986, we at Linkgroup have helped more than 80 apprentices learn their trade and successfully complete their training. One job with great potential for development is multimedia design. Jana and Ela, two of our apprentices, give a brief insight into their daily routine.

Jana and Ela, second- and third-year apprentices, made a conscious decision to train as multimedia designers. “When I applied to Linkgroup, I quickly realised that this was the right career for me,” says Jana. What got her curious was the wide range of different tasks involved. Ela also reckoned the job would be anything but boring. Experience has proven her right. “In our job, creativity is part of the daily routine.”

Contact with many other creative minds

Multimedia designers are versatile specialists who perform a wide range of tasks related to the creation and implementation of media projects. They deliver marketing and communication measures, discuss planned media projects with customers and develop creative concepts. Ela particularly enjoys this exchange: “At Linkgroup, I get to share my ideas with other people and develop them in a team. I can make full use of my design and technical skills and learn something new every day.”

Layout for diverse media

Their work also includes working up copy, images and graphics. They make sure that texts are easy to read on a variety of channels. They work on the layout, fonts and text, and create or import data for media production. Their job is to work up existing content appropriately for the various media. “You also get to be a pro in layout and typography,” says Jana. They’re always facing new challenges: “Here at Linkgroup, we design magazines, brochures, annual reports and much more.”

Fusing technology and design

To succeed in this job, it’s important to have a sense of form and colour, a good imagination and to enjoy working with computers. But you also need patience, an ability to grasp things quickly and the capacity to work accurately and independently on the tasks at hand. Ela adds: “I like it when my creativity is challenged, whether it’s designing a layout or coming up with a concept.” She loves it most when a project is successfully completed. “It’s just cool when a project we’ve been working on is ready to be seen.”

In the right place

Jana and Ela are enjoying their training to become multimedia designers. Even though their day-to-day work can sometimes be stressful, there’s still plenty of fun to be had. “I’m constantly surprised at how much I enjoy my work,” says Jana. The atmosphere among the people at Linkgroup is also relaxed. They both agree: “I would choose this apprenticeship at Linkgroup again in a heartbeat.”
